Immigration Basics Workshop Series

Good things come in threes

We’re looking for HR Professionals who want to unravel the intricacies of Canadian Immigration from the theoretical to the practical to join us for our workshop series.  We’ll give you enough information to be knowledgeable, but not overwhelmed so that you can effectively manage and oversee these complex issues for your organization. You will gain a broad understanding of potential immigration options and become a valuable resource to your management team, make strategic decisions on recruitment and workforce planning and effectively manage external immigration consultants or counsel.

We’ve recently expanded and updated our workshops to pack in even more practical information to help you navigate the ever-changing immigration landscape. We’ll cover work permits: when you need one, what are your options and how to get one. We’ll also dive into permanent residency: the options, pros and cons of each and how to strategize accordingly.

The workshop series comes in three parts, available as individual modules or together as a full package:

Part 1: The Nuts and Bolts of Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs)

We’ll dive into the complicated world of LMIAs, provide the context, and look at the various streams and variations, including:

  • Dual Intent LMIA’s for permanent full-time job offers
  • Temporary LMIA’s for temporary offers and project-based positions
  • Advertising requirements
  • Prevailing wages
  • 4-year rule for certain occupations

Part 2: Avoiding LMIA’s: LMIA-Exempt work permits

If LMIAs gave you a headache then we’ll try to ease the pain with LMIA-exempt work permit options. The programs have become increasingly complicated but not overwhelming. We’ll look at:

  • NAFTA Professionals
  • Intra-company Transferees
  • Francophone Worker program
  • International Experience Class, including working holidays and young professionals
  • Students and Study-related work permits
  • Options for spouses, partners, children

Part 3: Avoiding work permits: Permanent Residency

If work permits gave you a headache then we’ll tell you about moving past them entirely with permanent residency. Ever-so-complicated, the devil is in the detail with employment-based permanent residency. We’ll invite you into the world of:

  • Express Entry
  • Canadian Experience Class
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • BC Provincial Nominee Program
  • Language testing, education credentials assessments, points scores, invitations to apply

The Workshop Series:

In each workshop, you will learn, integrate, and practice with:

  • A half-day Workshop in an intimate group setting with plenty of case studies, practical tips and discussion (includes a light breakfast)
  • A Reference Guide to help you integrate this knowledge back at the office
  • 1 hour of One-on-One Follow-up, in whatever format works for you, be it ad hoc assistance or step-by-step guidance

The workshop is designed to be a series, each part building on knowledge from the last. We’ll put together the puzzle pieces so you can see the bigger picture and be able to provide the perspective your organization needs to manage immigration effectively. You’ll find that good things do come in threes.

The Cost:
  • Each part is $500 + GST
The Value:
  • Learn in a small group setting with the freedom to ask questions, test out ideas, and learn from your fellow classmates and instructors
  • Apply your newfound knowledge within the context of your organization, with your reference guide by your side and your immigration consultant nearby
  • Provide your organization with the resources (you!) to navigate the complicated world of immigration
  • Effectively manage immigration issues and be an engaged client to your external consultant/counsel
The ROI:

Consider all the time and money that you currently spend on:
